Shortest meet ever
The high-level meeting between Assam and Meghalaya chief ministers in Guwahati on Saturday over the inter-state boundary dispute was the shortest and ended on a cordial note. The meeting started around 11.30 am and was over by 12.30 pm. This was probably the shortest meeting that took place between both the states to discuss the important issue and left many surprised.
Next meet in Shillong
The next chief minister level border meet will be held in Shillong.Border Area Development Minister Prestone Tynsong said the State Government broke the ice by holding meeting in Guwahati. “We will meet again in Shillong,” he said.
Mukul arrives late, Sonowal waits for him
The meeting on Saturday was half an hour behind the schedule as Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma arrived late.
The meeting was scheduled to start at 11 am but it started only around 11.30 am when Sangma reached the venue.
Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal reached the venue and waited before receiving Sangma who was welcomed with a traditional Assamese gamocha.  The venue of the meeting was also changed suddenly. It was supposed to be held at the Administrative Staff College at Khanapara.
But it was held at the Brahmaputra Guesthouse, the official residence of the Assam chief minister, in Guwahati.
Border Crimes
Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal asserted that both states would jointly deal with the challenge of extremism and militancy along the inter-state border with more focus and commitment. “We will conduct joint operations against extremists and militants to restore peace and tranquility,” Sonowal said.
