IIM Shillong ranked 21st among Management Institutes

SHILLONG: IIM Shillong, which is one of the newly established premiere institutes in the country, has been named among the top 100 management institutes in India and ranked 21st.
Informing this here on Wednesday, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Institute, Falguni Rajkumar said that IIM Shillong is focussed on quality rather than quantity when it comes to students. He asserted that students who come to IIM Shillong are some of the best in the country. Stating that the Institute now wants to improve and strengthen basic research he added that the students of IIM Shillong are getting the best placements in some of the big corporations and multinationals.
IIM Shillong Director Amitabh De informed that the total intake capacity of the Institute is 390 students but the Institute has made a case before the Union Ministry for Human Resources Development to increase the number of seats. De said the proposal is under the consideration of the Government. ( Meanwhile, it was also informed that the new campus of IIM Shillong, which is under construction at Umsawli, is likely to be completed by next year.
Rajkumar asserted that some infrastructures in the new campus would be ready by the end of 2017 and they are contemplating to shift to the new campus by 2018.
The total area of the new campus is 120 acres with a built up area of 45,500 sq metres.
The construction of the campus is being taken up in two phases, Rajkumar said, adding that phase II of the campus will be completed by the middle of 2019.
The new campus would comprise the academic building, hostel and dining hall, residential quarters besides other facilities.
