Marathon to support KJP 125 years celebration

SHILLONG: The K.J.P. Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Shillong, has completed 125 years of its existence and the feat would be celebrated in a fun fare.

Addressing a press conference here in the city on Thursday, president of KJWA, G Reenbohn informed the theme of the celebration is ‘Great is Thy Faithfulness.’

In an effort to generate funds for the Celebration, the Khasi Jaintia Welfare Association (KJWA) would also organise a marathon on May 27 aiming to achieve the objective. The school in its 125 years journey of imparting education to the youths of the state, have contributed many great personalities to the society, like Silverine Swer (Padmashree), E N Shullai (Padmashree), Mavis Dunn Lyngdoh, the first Khasi woman Minister in the Assam government, Bonily Khongmen, the first Khasi woman Member of Parliament to name a few.

Reenbohn informed that sponsorship forms will be available for those wanting to participate in the marathon and donate for the purpose of raising funds for the schools celebration which will conclude on June 8, this year.

“People through the sponsorship forms can give any amount they want as everything generated from the marathon will be channeled in hosting of the 125th anniversary celebration later this year.” KJWA president said.

On the other hand, Rev. J.P. L Gadew, president of the Managing Committee of the School, claimed that K.J.P. is the first school in North East to pioneer women empowerment.
