SHILLONG: The two-laning of the Western Bypass near Shillong is likely to be delayed as negotiation with the consultant, M/s L.N Malviya, has failed because KHADC has not given consent for land acquisition for a part of the project.
M/s L.N Malviya was identified as an “H1 bidder”.
According to the sources, the West Khasi Hills deputy commissioner has prepared the estimate for land acquisition for the first 10km stretch.
However, the Revenue and Disaster Management Department could not notify it due to non-receipt of consent from the KHADC.
The sources informed that rebidding process is likely to take place for the road project.
The remaining stretch has to be realigned and land acquisition will be initiated only after the detailed project report is finalised.
The 42.405-km road project is to be taken up at a cost of Rs 258.37 crore.
Meanwhile, sources also said improvement of NH-40 between Shillong and Dawki and construction of the Dawki bridge are in progress. The projects are funded by Japanese entity JICA.
Based on the IR alignment broadly accepted by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in December 2015, the alignment was modified on the basis of the proposal by the JICA team and the State Government.
The in-principle approval of the alignment was conveyed earlier this year and comments of the State Government is awaited. The DPR will also be completed soon. The 71.2-km road is to be taken up at a cost of Rs 1,330 crore by M/s Transys Consulting Pvt. Ltd.
