SHILLONG: The distribution of blue and green colour-coded dustbins in non-municipal areas of the city will begin from April 29.
Officials said the first consignment of dustbins have already reached Shillong. This urban waste management programme is funded by the Asian Development Bank. Households in municipal areas of the city have already received the colour-coded dustbins.
Now, 100,000 dustbins will be distributed among 50,000 families in scheduled areas.
The officials said waste-dumpers will reach Shillong in the first week of May.
The idea behind distributing waste bins is to segregate garbage on the doorstep.
While many localities in the municipal areas have been implementing the project successfully whereas many localities are yet to pick up its pace as far as waste segregation is concerned.
