SHILLONG: Police are clueless about the disappearance of Prof. Roy (Sudhir Kumar Paul), the accused in the rape of a 14-year-old girl, for almost two months.
The police had in February issued a lookout notice and alerted its counterpart in West Bengal to arrest the accused who is from that State, but in vain.
As many as 19 persons have been arrested in connection with the rape of the girl who escaped from Marvelene’s Inn, run by the family of Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh, in December last to report the sex racket case to the police.
Paul, known as professor to the 14-year-old girl, was working as office assistant in a career institute in Shillong.
Following the lookout notice, his service was terminated by the institute.
A police source said on Sunday that just issuing a look notice to Paul will not help and what is needed is the constant effort and vigil to track the person.
According to a source, a special team should be set up to work on how to trace out the accused and constant joint coordination with the West Bengal police is the need of the hour.
Besides Paul, there are a few others involved in the crime and who are yet to be arrested.
Since the girl has identified Paul, there is a need to arrest him so that this will reflect in the charge sheet, the source added.
Police have submitted charge sheet only in three cases related to the rape incident.
