SHILLONG: Independent MLA John Leslee K. Sangma has demanded the removal of West Garo Hills DIG Mukesh Singh for allegedly hurting Christian sentiments.
Apprising Chief Minister Mukul Sangma of the demand, the Independent MLA alleged that the Palm Sunday service in Tura was disturbed by an event attended by the DIG at Parade Ground.
Slamming the incident, Leslee Sangma said, “The people of Tura had to bear the brunt of loud music with the person holding the microphone shouting at the top of his voice throughout the day and it continued late into the night.”
Terming the incident as a blatant disrespect of the religious sentiments of the Christians which is unprecedented in the history of Tura, Sangma added that believers who attended the service were shocked by the sequence of events.
The Independent MLA said that the action of the DIG has given rise to ill feelings as non-Christian youth of Tura Bazaar organised the event.
He added that the incident may lead to a conflict if the government does not view the matter seriously and take prompt action.
He stated that the matter has been brought to the notice of district Deputy Commissioner DD Shira who assured to look into it.
