Teacher sacked for sexual harassment

NONGSTOIN: A teacher of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya School here was sacked over alleged sexual harassment of over 12 students.
Viswajit Jha of Uttar Pradesh, was appointed as PGT Physics teacher this year on contract.
Sources said though it was going on for months, the incidents of sexual harassment came to light in March after the victims complained to the district magistrate.
Another source said there was a delay in complaining as the students were afraid.
The sources said a student was sexually harassed in March and she reported it to the district magistrate. An inquiry was ordered.
The district magistrate sent the probe report to the regional office in Shillong and subsequently the order for termination of Jha reached the school.
Vice principal Rakesh Baboo, who is also the in charge principal of the school, formally terminated Jha on April 10.
The probe committee has recommended that JNV Samiti Shillong should lodge an FIR against the teacher under the POCSO Act.
