Kolkata, Apr 18 (UNI) Sundarbans Tiger Reserve (STR) forest area officials have been examining a report and picture of an Indian variety of wolf located in the forest reserved for Royal Bengal Tigers (RBT).
RBT reserved forest areas director Nilanjan Mullick today said they have been examining the authenticity of the photograph of the wolf posted on social media claiming the picture was taken by a tour operator inside the tiger reserve forest of Sundarbans.
Tour operator Riddhiman Mukherjee, while leading a group of tourists, encountered a wolf and captured the photograph of the animal in his camera.
Forest officials said they have no such record and the wolf is found inside RBT reserved forests.
Mr Mullick said that they have deployed people geared up with camera and other modern equipment to take a picture of the animal if found in the forest.
He said unless “we photographed the animal or find any clue of having wolf in the tiger reserved forest we cannot come into any conclusion.”
Mr Mullick said records show that such kind of animal was traced in the interior of Bankura district but not in the Sundarbans jungles. UNI
