SHILLONG: The peace pact that was signed by the State and the central governments with two disbanded rebel groups will be reviewed in May or June, said a senior official in the Home Ministry on Thursday.
Speaking to media persons, the joint secretary, Home, in charge of the North East, Satyendra Garg, said Thursday’s meeting was called at a short notice and the next review will include all stakeholders, including members of the disbanded outfits.
The agreement was signed by the Centre, the State Government, ANVC and ANVC-B in Delhi on September 24, 2014.
Garg said there was delay in rehabilitation of former ANVC-B members “due to operational issues and the Meghalaya Government will address it”. There is, however, no problem with ANVC rehabilitation, he added.
“Certain norms are required to be followed during the process… But if anybody has any point, we will take it up. A lot of progress has been made as far as rehabilitation is concerned and we will have a formal review in a month or so,”Garg said and added that the Centre is happy with the progress.
The Centre had earlier discussed about rehabilitation on one occasion.
Garg said all surrendered cadres have to follow some rules failing which they will face legal action.
The meeting on Thursday was attended by senior officials from as many as 14 departments, including police.
The features of the Agreed Text include transfer of as many as 13 subjects, including minor works of agriculture, sericulture and weaving, animal husbandry, fisheries and minor irrigation, among others, to the GHADC. But this is yet to be done.
The former leader of ANVC-B is crying foul over the delay in implementation of the pact in letter and spirit and has blamed the State for the delay in releasing the rehabilitation package.
