SHILLONG/NONGSTOIN: Information and Technology Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Friday asked civil service officers to fight against all odds to ensure good governance.
She was addressing a gathering during the celebration of the Civil Services Day in the city.
Speaking at the programme held under the theme “Challenges in Delivery of Public Services”, Lyngdoh highlighted the importance of civil servants working in tandem with legislators.
While stressing on ensuring accountability at both political and bureaucratic levels, she exhorted the civil servants to ensure good governance.
Earlier, while delivering the welcome address, Chief Secretary K.S Kropha spoke on the need to break the stereotype and focus on citizen-centric governance.
Echoing Lyngdoh’s on cooperation, Kropha said all concerned should “give their best” in the interest of the State and the nation.
Later in the day, the address of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was webcast live from Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.
The inaugural function was followed by three technical sessions with A. Didar Singh, IAS (retd), Secretary General, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, P J P Hanaman, IPS (retd), Member Meghalaya Human Rights Commission and a team of officers from the Forest & Environment Department, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills also observed the Civil Services Day at Trysem hall, Nongstoin. Toki Blah (Rtd. IAS), ICARE president was the chief guest on the occasion while Deputy Commissioner in charge P.D.Sangma, former Deputy Director of DIPR P.Marbaniang, EACs and department heads were also present.
