SHILLONG: BJP president Amit Shah will visit the State on August 12 to inaugurate the party office in the city and hold meetings with party functionaries.
State BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh said on Monday that though the party wanted Shah to visit Shillong in June, the meeting has been scheduled for August 12 because the party president will tour other parts of the country for the next 90 days.
Shah will leave Shillong on August 13 after spending the whole day.
According to Lyngdoh, though the main agenda will be the inauguration of the party office, he will hold meetings with party members and church leaders.
“He will assess the overall organisation of the party after inaugurating the office and he will also address party workers, church leaders and intellectuals of the State,” Lyngdoh said.
The State party chief said the BJP leader will also try to meet people at the grassroots level, but he will not address any public meeting.
Shah had visited Meghalaya in April 2015, besides other northeastern states like Mizoram, Nagaland and Manipur, during his week-long tour.
In Shillong, he had met the regional political party leaders, church leaders and BJP workers.
The BJP chief was greeted with protests in the city.
