SHILLONG: Continuing its attack on Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) on Monday slammed the BJP leader for his statements against Chief Minister Mukul Sangma.
MPYC president Richard Marak said Sarma’s comments only reflected his party’s desperation and alleged that the unsavoury remarks against Sangma was an attempt on the Assam leader’s part to divert attention from his own shortcomings.
“Since he could not realise his own chief ministerial ambitions he is trying to divert attention from his own shortcoming by making unsavoury remarks against a former colleague in the Congress,” Marak alleged.
He also predicted that the BJP will not even win a single sit in the next Assembly election in Meghalaya.
Stating that Sangma has delivered more than what he promised, the youth congress leader added that the people of Meghalaya have full faith in the Congress which is certain to retain power in 2018.
BJP leader Sarma had on Friday blamed Chief Minister Mukul Sangma for lack of development in Meghalaya. Sarma had also said that BJP will file a charge sheet against the Congress-led MUA government focusing on the scams and failures during Sangma’s tenure and take the list to the electorate.
Meanwhile, the MPYC also held a state executive meeting here on Monday to review various programmes conducted by the party and appoint new office bearers.
Former GSU Khasi Hills Zone president Saljrang G Momin formally joined the MPYC and was inducted as secretary in the state committee. Andrew Shullai, JHADC MDC, was also inducted as a secretary.
