Restriction on overloading of limestone

SHILLONG: The Sohra Sub-divisional Magistrate has promulgated an order under Section 144 of the CrPC restricting movement of trucks on Sohra-Shillong road from 6 am to 6 pm with immediate effect.
The order has been passed in view of several reports stating that trucks, dumpers and lorries are transporting limestone from various places of Sohra sub-division to the cement plants in Umiam and Byrnihat in Ri Bhoi district in excess of the permissible weight of 9 metric tonnes on the road connecting Shella and Bholaganj to Shillong via Sohra.
The order has been imposed for the upkeep of the PWD road and for the safety and smooth passage of commuters. This order will be effective for six months.
