SHILLONG: Minister of Information and Public Relations Ampareen Lyngdoh said on Friday Meghalaya is ready to go digital.
The minister, who was addressing a gathering at a workshop on capacity building of small and medium businesses and traders on digital payment initiatives, said people should be made aware of the various modes of digital payments spearheaded by the Centre.
“Digital transaction is a better alternative to bring stability in the economy which is largely dependent on the flow of cash among the citizens in general,” she added.
Terming the cashless economy as the new mantra, Lyngdoh said Meghalaya is ready to join the digital bandwagon.
“Do not underestimate the people of Meghalaya as we are determined to join the mainstream in the long run if it is good for us,” she said at the programme organised by National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) at Yojana Bhavan, Secretariat.
At the same time, Lyngdoh reminded people of the threat from cyber criminals and urged the East Khasi Hills DC, P.S Dkhar, who was present at the function, to take preventive measures in this regard.
Dkhar said things will be made easier and everything will be made accountable.
The objective of the workshop was to understand and adopt simple digital payment mechanism like Unified Payments Interface, Unstructured Supplementary Service Data and Aadhaar Enabled Payment System, among others. The digital payment is seen as a necessity to weed out black money and corruption.
