TURA: The seizure of over Rs 1 lakh in fake Indian currency notes and the arrest of two persons from Rajabala in West Garo Hills on Monday indicate that Mankachar in Assam is becoming a centre of such activities, police said on Tuesday.
The police said agents are handing over counterfeit notes to prospective customers for a commission.
Meanwhile, the seized currency notes have been sent to a government forensic laboratory, district SP MGR Kumar said.
The arrested persons, Abdul Kalam and Salseng Sangma, were targeting large village markets to introduce the fake notes into the system, police said.
