SHILLONG: As many as 12 organisations in the State wanted a discussion with the three members of Parliament from Meghalaya on the proposed amendment to the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
The social organisations attended a meeting at the conference hall of the KSU central body here on Wednesday.
In a statement, NESO chairman Samuel Jyrwa said the discussion was on the proposed amendment to the Sixth Schedule.
The meeting took note of the recent statement of the Centre that the proposed amendment to the Sixth Schedule will be tabled in the next session of Parliament after being approved by the Union Cabinet.
In this regard, the meeting decided to write to all the three members of Parliament – Shillong MP Vincent Pala, Tura MP Conrad Sangma and Rajya Sabha member Wansuk Syiem – urging them to make available the latest official copy of the proposed Amendment Bill of the Sixth Schedule.
They also sought an audience with them to have a thorough discussion on the sensitive issue which, according to them, will affect the microscopic indigenous communities in the State.
The organisations which took part in the meeting are the KSU, FKJGP, NESO, Meghalaya Indigenous Peoples Forum, Synjuk Nongsynshar Shnong ka Bri Hynniewtrep, Federation of Khasi States, Garo Students’ Union, Ka Dorbar ki Khlieh Nongsynshar ka Ri Hynniewtrep, Hynniewtrep National Youth Front, ADE, AYWO and KKTMS.
