HC upholds Champion bail in Pynursla case

SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has refused to cancel the bail granted to GNLA chairman Champion Sangma by the Sessions Court.
The application of the Government to cancel the bail was heard by Justice SR Sen on Friday and he did not find any reason to cancel the bail.
Earlier, the counsel for Champion, Sujit Dey had made a submission that, the final hearing was fixed on Friday, and the accused is already under detention in connection with other cases.
H.S. Thangkhiew, senior counsel assisted by Philemon Nongbri, counsel for the prosecution were also present in the Court.
It was on July 30, 2012 that Champion was arrested from an area under Pynursla in Indo-Bangladesh border.
Legal notice to police
Meanwhile, Dey said that as per the request of his client, he may send a legal notice to the assistant Inspector General of Police G. K Iangrai for providing a ‘vague’ list of cases pending against Champion.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had asked the concerned authorities to provide the list of cases against Champion.
“The list provided by the official is not clear, hence we may issue a legal notice to him,” Dey said.
