26920 ml of illegal liquor seized
SHILLONG: The Sadar Police Station on Thursday had 26920 ml of illegal liquors from different restaurants in Polo Bazar. Despite continuous and regular crackdown, the restaurants are still running their lucrative and profitable business although illegal without an iota of remorse, police said. The owners will be sent to court for facing trial under the Meghalaya Police Act and if convicted fine of Rs 5000 will have to be paid by the owners involved in this act.
DC visits health centres
SHILLONG: The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, P.S Dkhar, visited Bishnupur Urban Health Centre and Mawlai Nongkwar Urban Health Centre on Friday to review preparations for the upcoming Mission Indradhanush to be held from May 8 to 15. The DC, who interacted with medical officers, nurses and ASHAs, was accompanied by District Medical and Health Officer M.R Basaiawmoit, District MCH Officer J.B Ranee, Urban Health Consultant M. Shadap and District Programme Manager, NHM, W. Pamdhai.
KSU WKH unit elects office bearers
NONGSTOIN: The KSU’s West Khasi Hills unit president Johnfisher Nongsiang has been elevated to the post of president for the fourth consecutive term. The election was held at Bishop Hall in Nongstoin on Friday. The meeting was chaired by Banrikupar Nongsiej, Chairman of the Election Committee of the KSU central body.Nongsiang is the president of the unit since 2007. The meeting was attended by central body president Lambok Marngar, vice president Shemphang Kharmawphlang and organising secretary Biangbor Paliar.Beside the post of president, the post of vice president went to Shemphang Marbaniang, who won uncontested. Rishotskhembor Kharbani was elected as the new general secretary, Pytshang Jyrwa as assistant secretary, Ellen Syiemlieh as education secretary, John Milton Wahlang as organising secretary, Kitborlang Marngar as its publicity secretary and Kenyjohn Marwein was elected as its office secretary.
Air chief visits Eastern Air Command
SHILLONG: Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa and president of the Air Force Wives Welfare Association (AFWWA) Kamalpreet Dhanoa arrived on Thursday for a two-day visit to HQ Eastern Air Command, Shillong. On their arrival at the ALG Shillong, the Air Chief and his wife were received by Air Marshal Anil Khosla and Deepshikha Khosla, president of AFWWA (Regional). The Air Chief held discussions with AOC-in-C and was briefed on the operational preparedness of Eastern Air Command, one of the five operational Commands of the IAF. He later addressed all officers of the Command and interacted with them.In a separate function, the president of AFWWA attended a special AFWWA meeting of Sanginis and also visited various welfare amenities at HQ EAC for air warriors and their families. The Air Chief and president AFWWA subsequently left for a day long visit to Air Force Station Chabua before returning to Delhi on Friday.
Villagers complain against VEC Secy over MGNREGA works
TURA: Villagers from Arbellapara in North Garo Hills district have alleged that many projects under MGNREGA are incomplete and workers are not paid and demanded a review of the various schemes carried out by the previous village employment council (VEC) secretary.The villagers have alleged that as many as 23 villagers, who worked in MGNREGA projects, were not paid. The amount pending is Rs. 1.29 lakh.They claimed that while Rs 56,000 was sanctioned for materials, the VEC secretary only displayed an amount of Rs 25,000 for use in the projects compelling them to demand his removal.Some of the works which purportedly failed to be completed include the construction of retaining walls for 2 years, 2014-15 and 2015-16.
