Mumbai decimates Delhi, wins by 146 runs

New Delhi, May 6 (UNI) In an one sided match the Mumbai Indians decimated their opponents the Delhi Daredevils by 146 runs here at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground in the match 45th match of Indian Premier league (IPL). Winning the toss this evening, Delhi chose to bowl first. But Mumbai Indians oustanding batting prowess helped them post 213 runs on board. Chasing the mammoth total Delhi stubled right from the beginning. Opener Sanju Samson got out in the first ball of their innings off Mitchell McClenaghan. Delhi was not in the game ever as they failed to put up a partnership. Wickets kept tumbling as none of the Delhi batsmen looked to build an innings. In the second over Shreyas Iyer (3) was removed by Lasith Malinga. Risabh Pant came to bat as Karun Nair looked positive about steadying the innings, But in the fourth over Risabh Pant (0) gave away his wickets as he was caught by Lendil Simmons off Jasprit Bumrah. In came Corey Anderson as Delhi was lingering at 20 for 3. Just when Karun (21) was looking to open his arms he was removed by Harbhajan Singh in the next over. It was like a house of cards as wickets kept falling for Daredevils. Anderson (10) was caught by Karn Sharma off Malinga. Delhi were reduced to 35 for five after the powerplay. It was surproising as none of the batsmen looked to build a partnership as they threw their wickets in a whimsy. Marlon Sammuels (1) was next to go as he was caughg brilliantly by Rohit off Karn Sharma. In the following over Pat Cummins followed the trend to deposit a catch to Parthiv Patel off a Harbhajan delivery. Kagiso Rabada and Amit Mishra was at the crease but not for long. In the tenth over itself Rabada (0) was scalped by Karn. In the eleventh over Mohammed Shami (7) was removed by Harbhajan as he looked to go over the boundary giving a catch to Kieron Pollard. Delhi was 58 for nine wickets at the end of twelvth over. Mumbai didnt have to wait for long before putting the final pin on Delhi’s coffin as Zaheer Khan was out giving a catch to Nitish Rana off Karn Sharma. Delhi was bowled out for 66 runs in just 13.4 overs as Mumbai firmed their place at the table top with 18 points from 11 games.
For the visitors Karn Sharma and Harbhajan took three wickets conceding 11 runs and 22 runs respectively while Lasith Malinga scalped two for five. Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell McCleneghan scalped one wicket each. Earlier batting first Mumbai Indians posted a colossal 213 runs. Based on West Indian pair Lendil Simmons and Kieron Pollard’s mesmerizing batting. Lendil Simmons came into the side sitting 10 games out. Proving his worth yet again he struck a 66 runs knock of 43 balls. The caribbean power stricker Kieron Pollard made it evident his batting prowess with a 63 runs off 35 balls. For the hosts Kagiso Rabada took one wicket giving 33 runs, Amit Mishra returned with one wicket for 37 runs and Corey Anderson scalping one for 29 runs.
