108 ambulance falls into gorge, two dead

SHILLONG: Liquor bottles were found inside the 108 ambulance that plunged into a gorge at Mawngap, on the outskirts of Shillong, killing the driver and the helper on Wednesday.
Police said the incident happened around 3 pm on Wednesday at Kreit near Mawphlang when the ambulance (ML 01 5803) was on its way to Mairang from Shillong.
The deceased have been identified as Teibor Lyngdoh (32) of Mawlai Kyntonleih Mawroh, who was driving the ambulance and Pyrshabor Marwein (23) of Mawkyrwat.
The liquor bottles found inside the vehicle indicated that the accident might have been the result of drunken driving. Sources said reckless driving caused the mishap. But the exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.
