SHILLONG: The State Government can approach the Health Ministry over derecognition of post graduation courses at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) if the institute approaches it on the matter.
The additional chief secretary in charge of Health and Family Welfare, Y. Tsering, during an informal discussion said the Government usually does not interfere in NEIGRIHMS affairs because it is a central institute.
However, “the State Government can take up the matter with the Ministry that in turn can take up the matter with the Medical Council of India (MCI)”, Tsering said.
“So far NEIGRIHMS has not approached us on the matter and if they want, we will take up the matter,” he added.
MCI recently derecognised PG degrees in MD-Radiodiagnosis, MS-General Surgery and MD-Anaesthesiology awarded by the institute under the affiliation of North-Eastern Hill University.
One of the major deficiencies which have been pointed out at the PG committee meeting of MCI was recruitment rules (RR) followed by NEIGRIHMS which were totally different from those suggested by MCI.
