SHILLONG: The State police have already started its exercise of identifying vulnerable areas in preparation for the Assembly polls scheduled for early part of next year.
Meghalaya DGP S.B Singh said a few rounds of meetings have already been held with chief electoral officer Frederick Kharkongor.
According to the DGP, the identification of vulnerable areas is an ongoing process.
He also added that additional forces will be deployed for the polls.
As far as the activities of insurgents are concerned, the police are looking at South Garo Hills, East Garo Hills and a few pockets of West Khasi Hills.
An early election is unlikely in Meghalaya though the election department is ready to hold the polls as and when it is announced.
The Election Commission had already called a meeting of all the political parties on May 12 to discuss the matters related to polls, especially to clear doubts over EVMs.
The state political parties are expected to attend the meeting in Delhi.
