SHILLONG: The Team Preparation Committee of the National Games 2022, which met here on Friday, decided to engage with 22 affiliated sports associations in the state to prepare the roadmap for successfully hosting the mega event.
Meghalaya State Olympic Association, working president, John Kharshiing said that the committee which is being headed by Director of Sports will also call State Associations individually to prepare the road map and sought their expectations and challenges in terms of coaching, practice venue and exposure.
He also said that as infrastructures for the event may take some time to come up, necessary engagements would also be made with states like Assam, Tripura, and Armed Forces and Sports Authority of India for practice of the athletes from Meghalaya.
It may be mentioned that the Meghalaya Government would shortly also sign a host city agreement and the draft is being currently prepared by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
“Once they send us the draft, it will be vetted and go through various scrutiny, Kharshiing said.
The IOA, on March this year formally announced that Meghalaya would host the National Games 2022, after the state had made a bid to host the mega event.
So far, only two states from North East- Assam and Manipur have hosted the National Games.
