2 men brutally assaulted in NGH, 1 dies

TURA: A 27-year-old man was killed after miscreants assaulted him and his younger brother near Bajengdoba in North Garo Hills late on Friday night, police said. The deceased man, identified as Aminul Islam, was a cattle herder and his brother, 23-year-old Mostafa Ahmed, is an employee in a furniture store in Mendipathar town. Mostafa is critically injured and is admitted in a hospital in Goalpara.
The brothers were from Simulbari village under Lakhimpur police station of Goalpara.
The police said the duo was attacked near Narangkol village, a few kilometers from Bajengdoba, on the road to Resubelpara around 8pm on Friday.
Locals passing through the area saw the two injured men lying along the road and alerted police around 10 pm. The police said the men were unconscious and their clothes were ripped off.

They were rushed to the nearest health centre at Bajengdoba but Aminul succumbed to his injuries on the way. There were no doctors on the night shift and police had to wait till morning to get the death declared, sources said.
The motive behind the attack is yet to be known.
“We have started a probe and are waiting for the injured person to regain consciousness. He might be able to throw light on what happened that night,” said district police chief D.P Marak.
