SHILLONG: Cabinet Minister Zenith Sangma has said the Congress will win more seats in the 2018 Assembly elections than the last polls in 2013 when the party won 29 seats and expressed fear that BJP may use money power to secure seats.
Speaking to media persons recently, Zenith said next year’s elections will be interesting if the opposition candidates are strong.
The minister alleged that BJP will use money power in the 2018 elections.
Alluding to the symbiotic relation between BJP and the business houses, Zenith said, “We should know that some corruption must be practised somewhere to return the favours to those business houses.”
Blaming the saffron party for creating “artificial support” among electorate, Zenith said the saffron party is desperate to win Meghalaya.
When asked about the reports that many of the sitting MLAs, including a few Cabinet ministers are looking to desert the party, he said the Congress is happy to have those leaders who would remain with the Congress through thick and thin.
“Those who don’t have any principle and who don’t have knowledge of the principle and ideology of the party would leave the party and they must have embraced the Congress only to get elected,” he said.
The Congress leader also made it clear that he is not leaving the party even if he does not contest the 2018 elections. He further claimed that the coalition of BJP-NPP-UDP would not work out in the State and they cannot work together as they have differences and “there will be clashes of interests among them”.
Zenith said there are few good leaders in non- Congress parties who want to work with Congress.
