SHILLONG: BSNL held an enterprise customers’ meet on the occasion of World Telecom and Information Society Day on Wednesday.
K.K Saxena, Chief General Manager for North East 1 circle, said, “The enterprise segment is very important for BSNL and we are meeting the enterprise customers so that we can fulfil their bulk data requirement.”
He said in the North East, BSNL is improving the connectivity and planning to expand this year.
“The development in the North East is going on in a big way and the theme of this year’s World Telecom and Information Society Day is ‘Big data for big impact’. We are meeting the challenge in this difficult region of the North East,” he said.
Commenting on the difficult terrain and natural calamities, Saxena said, “In Garo Hills area of Mahendraganj and Ampati, road has been blocked because bridges have been washed away.” He added that in such cases, it takes time to restore connectivity but the company will make an all-out effort to do so as early as possible.
When asked about the connectivity issues in the international border, Saxena said, “BSNL is increasing its connectivity through optical fibre cable length. Once the road development is complete, we will get permission from the highway authorities and state government to lay down optical fibre cable and increase our network in border areas.”
He informed that the BSNL North Eastern Region is planning to set up 56 new towers in Meghalaya to increase its reach.
As for the 4G network, he informed that it is in the pipeline. “Our offers are better than private operators in so far as cost to the customers and network is concerned,” he said.
