SHILLONG: The CSWO has alleged that patients from Kohphet Nongur, Krang Dewlieh and Pyndengkhah villages, who had had gone to Sohiong CHC for immediate medical attention, were referred to private clinics in absence of the doctor.
CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing claimed that the patients from the villages under Sohiong constituency had gone to the CHC on May 16 only to be asked by the nurses to go to the nearby clinic. “With no other option, the patients had to go to the nearby clinic where a doctor who works in the CHC examined people. The villagers had to spend over Rs 500 in the clinic,” Kharshiing alleged.
According to the CSWO, a woman who had taken her aged mother suffering from dysentery and fever to the CHC was also forced to go to the private clinic. Another man whose child had swallowed a coin was turned away by the CHC on May 17 following which he had to book a private vehicle to go the Shillong Civil Hospital.
The CSWO has demanded an inquiry into this matter and urged the Health department to take action against the guilty.
