Sadar PS organises awareness programme for students
SHILLONG: The Sadar Police Station organised a programne on personality development and awareness on drug abuse, cyber crime and crime against women at All Saints’ Diocesan Higher Secondary School here on Friday. Students of classes VIII to XII attended the programme. Pamphlets which were prepared by Sadar Police Station on issues related to crime against women and children, cyber crime and drugs were distributed to the students.

Body recovered from Nondein
NONGSTOIN: The Nongstoin Police fished out the body of Wanlumlang Thongni (24) from Nondein river on Friday. Thongni was a resident of Siejlieh village. The body was first spotted by some villagers who informed the police. According to his parents, Thongni was missing since three days. The body was sent to civil hospital for postmortem.

JSU questions formation of new group
SHILLONG: The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) has unanimously decided to retain Rikut.N Parien as president of JSU central body. The JSU, meanwhile, questioned the formation of JSU-1 which was set up by members who deserted the students’ body. In a statement, the JSU stated that it was an attempt to divide the organisation. The JSU also elected new office bearers.

Demand for toilet in Kiang Nangbah Stadium
SHILLONG: The Hynñiewtrep National People Federation (HNPF), Jaintia Hills, has urged the District Sports Officer and the State Government to ensure that a public toilet is built at the Kiang Nangbah Stadium, Jowai. The HNPF noted that in absence of a public toilet, people are often forced to relieve themselves in the open.

FIR against misappropriation
SHILLONG: An FIR has been filed into the alleged misappropriation of Black Topping of Rural Roads Scheme (BTRRS) funds in South Garo Hills. Balmen G Momin of Siju Aratika filed the FIR on May 3 alleging misappropriation of up to Rs. 25 lakh. It was learnt that the case may be handed to the State Anti Corruption Bureau.
