MLCU students visit Mercy Home; spread road safety awareness

SHILLONG: The Department of Counselling Psychology, Martin Luther Christian University on Friday organised a visit to Mercy Home, Demthring as part of the students’ community outreach programme. The students of BSc Psychology 6th Semester visited the Home and spent time with the inmates besides organising a short programme titled, “Positive Psychology and Old Age”.
Meanwhile, the students of the Department of Management and Commerce studies, MLCU organised a road safety awareness programme along the Mawkdok-Sohra road on Friday.
The objective of the awareness programme was to sensitise drivers and even pedestrians about the safety measures to be taken along the highway or state roads.
According to the data provided by the Office of the Sub Divisional Police Officer, Sohra the stretch of road between Mawkdok and Sohra has seen 34 road accidents in 2015 while in 2016, a total of 33 road accidents have taken place along the route.
During the awareness programme, the MLCU students distributed pamphlets and stickers with traffic rules and regulations written on them to vehicles travelling along the stretch.
