SHILLONG: The FKJGP Nongthymmai circle has condemned the incident of assault on two Khasi youths at Rilbong Point near Military Hospital.
FKJGP said it was the handiwork of a group of non-tribals believed to be Nepalese.
“Incidents like this had happened in the past in the same area and we believe that this is a planned attack targeting mainly the local Khasi people and it is orchestrated by none other than the Nepalese residing in that area,” FKJGP Nongthymmai circle president Wankmenlang Tariang said in a statement on Sunday.
According to FKJGP, Shillong has been peaceful and free from communal tension for quiet sometime as the local population understood the need for peace and harmony in developing the State.
“But these incidents will definitely bring back the communal tension of the 80s’ and 90s’. If such incidents continue to happen, then the Federation will not have any other option but to retaliate and will not even hesitate to tread the path of violence to safeguard our beloved Khasi race,” it said.
It also urged the police department to take the matter seriously and arrest the culprits.
