SHILLONG: In a first, the High Court of Meghalaya will hear the education scam case for the third consecutive day on Wednesday. The court yet again found discrepancies in the report of the High Level Scrutiny Committee (HLSC) during the hearing on Tuesday.
When the matter came up for hearing, the Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Judge V.P Vaish on Tuesday observed that the reports regarding one of the candidates at Shillong Centre “as earlier made by the CBI and later made by the HLSC are at stark variance”.
While the CBI had reported that there was overwriting on the candidate’s marks with the initial marks of ’41’ changed to ’43’, the HLSC report mentioned that the total marks was 41 and there was no overwriting. The court said in response to the submissions made by counsel H.L Shangreiso regarding his petition.
“We have taken out the original score sheets from the papers filed by the senior counsel for the CBI and after having examined the original score sheet in relation to the candidate concerned, we have also permitted the Advocate General to examine the same who could not deny the position that the contents of the HLSC report as regards the total number of marks of the concerned candidate are not correct and even the suggestions made by the HLSC that there were no overwriting on marks, remain questionable,” the court said.
The court ordered that the relevant papers should be again placed in the safe custody of the Registrar General to be produced before the court as and when called upon to do so.
Earlier, the two boxes containing the papers submitted by senior counsel VK Jindal for the CBI and Advocate General for the State were placed before the court.
The court had heard several petitions with regard to the case on Tuesday.
