SHILLONG: The Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT), which is being constructed at Mawiong on the outskirts of the city, is delayed by two years.
The monthly progress report of the North Eastern Council (NEC) for April says the project, which was sanctioned in January 2013, has been delayed by 25 months.
The deadline for completion of the project was 2017.
NEC, which is implementing the project, has so far released three installments amounting to over Rs 10 crore of which the last installment was released in March this year. But sources said work has picked up pace. So far, 100 per cent of the earthwork has been completed and 40 per cent of the internal road in the site is also complete while progress in the construction of the terminal building has made 20 per cent progress.
The ISBT project is being taken up at a cost of Rs 48 crore and would accommodate 150-200 buses.
The project is aimed at decongesting the overcrowded parking lots located in Shillong since most parking places are used by inter-state buses.
Meanwhile, the ISBT in Tura is ready for inauguration and details are being worked on how to operate it that is built on the outskirts of Tura town.
