SHILLONG: H.S Shylla’s call for a regional alliance has prompted many parties, including UDP, to discuss the feasibility of a united front of local entities.
The UDP’s central executive committee will hold a meeting on Thursday that will focus on two issues – pre-poll alliance of regional parties as suggested by the party’s MDC H.S Shylla and review of its decision to withdraw support from the KHADC coalition.
Shylla’s call for regional unity has been lauded many in the State political fraternity. The party had earlier said it would discuss the matter.
Also, four MDCs of the party had requested CEC to review the decision to pull out of the People’s Democratic Forum in the KHADC led by P.N Syiem.
The meeting is scheduled for Thursday noon.
HSPDP leaders too will meet on Thursday and are likely to discuss issues related to a pre-poll alliance. Party president Ardent Basaiawmoit had hinted at regional alliance.
