2 among JH teen’s assaulters surrender

SHILLONG: Two persons who were among the assaulters of a teenager in East Khasi Hills surrendered to Khliehriat police on Friday night.
The accused, Benjamin Phawa and Adingson Lhuid, surrendered after the video showing them brutally assaulting the 18-year-old boy went viral on social media.
East Jaintia Hills SP Spill Thamar said police took suo motu cognizance of the crime and they are making “sincere efforts” to arrest all the accused.
The victim, Batskhem Pala of Sutnga Pohshnong, was punished for stealing a blanket and a television set.
Police said it could not be ascertained where the boy has gone for treatment. He was an orphan and is known by more than one name.
It was presumed that he went to NEIGRIHMS and Civil Hospital in Shillong. Police tried to locate the boy in the two hospitals but he could not be located.
The district police chief also asserted that one person in the video who was seen thrashing the boy is a government employee at the Saipung C&RD block. He is absconding.
