Sensitisation programme on crime against women and children

TURA: A daylong sensitisation programme on rising crimes against women and children was held on the premises of Government Boys Higher Secondary School here on Friday.
The programme was organised by the Directorate of Educational Research and Training (DERT), Meghalaya, and students of Class IX and X from 10 schools of West Garo Hills district attended the event.
Addressing the gathering during the inaugural programme, Lecturer and Programme Coordinator of DERT, Shillong, Singje Ch Marak said the public should have knowledge and understanding of the provisions of certain rights and privileges provided by the government for the benefit of the people at large.
During the technical session, Fredrick Sangma, Protection Officer, Child Protection Unit Tura, Non-Institutional explained in detail about the conceptual framework, salient features and aims and objectives of Child Rights, Child Protection, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 (POCSO Act) and Juvenile Justice Act.
A session on Anti-Trafficking and Cyber Crime was delivered by Janice K Marak, Inspector of Police, West Garo Hills while Cara Sangma, Assistant Professor, Tura Law College dealt with the Legal Aspects on Crime against Women and Children.
