SHILLONG: The Mawlai Constituency Progressive Forum (MCPF) has demanded from the state government the setting up of Mawlai Community and Rural Development Block at Mawlai at the earliest.
In a press statement, the organisation stated that it will resort to agitation to ensure its demand for Mawlai C& RD block is fulfilled.
The MCPF has appreciated the efforts of HYC Mawlai Circle and FKJGP Mawlai Circle who have all along demanded the Mawlai Community and Rural Development Block at Mawsiatkhnam as a second option if no suitable place is found.
It may be recalled that the Mawlai C&RD Block, the Mawlai town Dorbar has opposed the suggestion of headmen of five villages-Mawsiatkhnam, Umrynjah, Madan Mawkhar, Nongkohlew and Umprew to set up the block at Mawsiatkhnam citing that it is not centrally located.
Mawlai, which came under the jurisdiction of Mylliem C&RD Block, is one of the four new C&RD blocks announced by the State government last year.
