Internal marking system to continue: MBoSE
SHILLONG: The executive chairman of the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE), Pravin Bakshi has announced that the introduction of 20 percent internal marks and 80 percent theory marks for subjects such as English, Additional English, Modern Indian Languages (MIL) in classes IX and X still stands. A detailed syllabus of classes IX and X can be downloaded from the official MBoSE website. He also stated that MBoSE will conduct a symposium for general opinions on the existing MBoSE prescribed textbooks on June 1 in Tura and June 8 in Shillong at the MBoSE office.
EJH Doloi files FIR against two for fraud
SHILLONG: Acting Doloi of Elaka Sutnga has filed a complaint against two people for manipulation. Doloi Patric Pala in the FIR informed that Kmen Pala and Seibor Shadap claimed to be members of Durbar of Elaka Sutnga, served letters to various cement factories, wherein they stated that all legal matters related with Elaka Sutnga should be done through them. They also illegally convened a meeting without any permission from the Elaka and also fined some residents of Tangnub village (EJH) of Rs. 1 lakh each, in the name of the Elaka.
Insurance customers awareness programme
An insurance customers awareness programme was organised in the city on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, Income Tax, Chief Commissioner, Shillong, L.C. Joshi Ranee said that on many occasions, insurance holders
find it difficult to claim money.To ease the process, Ranee said that all claims should be settled within a reasonable time. While giving a key note address, the Ombudsman, Kolkata and Guwahati, K.B. Saha (in picST) said that the customers should be very careful while filling the details of the insurance. Problems start when customers authorise their agents to fill the form and important information about the customers are left blank.He also said that new rules have been notified in 2017 for ombudsman and these new rules are in favour of the customers. An interaction was also held in which many customers brought forth important questions before the ombudsman.
Paul lauds women’s group for drug awareness
SHILLONG: Ekta Mahila Samiti, a city-based women’s NGO organised ‘Youth Awareness Programme’ at Upper Mawprem, which was attended by over 300 students, teacher community, parents, local MLA Paul Lyngdoh, members of Rangbah Shnong and police personnel. The programme was held to motivate the young people when they are most likely to fall for the wrong habits like taking drugs and alcohol. The MLA lauded the efforts by the Mahila Samiti for organising the awareness programme. Lyngdoh said that drug and alcohol is the major irritant that could disturb the peace and happiness of not just the affected families but the society at large. He assured Mahila Samiti help in fighting the negative forces with the collaboration of the local Ranbag Shnong and the police
Award for students
SHILLONG: MLA from Mairang constituency, Metbah Lyngdoh has informed that the Educational Excellence Award Committee will award the top ten candidates who excelled in the SSLC and HSSLC examinations (Arts, science and commerce). He urged the candidates to submit their mark sheet along with their contact number, name of the school and the village at the office of the MLA at Mariang or his residence at Laitumkhrah within June 10.
Minimum wages revised
SHILLONG: The Government of Meghalaya has revised the minimum wages in respect of the Schedule of Employments with effect from April 1 as informed by the Principal Secretary, Labour Department.For unskilled category, the minimum wage per day has been fixed at Rs. 160.00 + 29 = Rs. 189. For semi-skilled category, the minimum wage per day has been fixed at Rs. 170 + 31 = Rs. 201 and for skilled category, the minimum wage per day has been fixed at Rs. 180 + 32 = Rs. 212 and for highly-skilled category, the minimum wage per day has been fixed at Rs. 200 + 35= Rs. 235. The variable Dearness Allowance has been rounded off to the next higher rupee.
