Silver jubilee of Ri Bhoi District

SHILLONG: The Ri Bhoi Silver Jubilee Organising Committee in collaboration with the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Nongpoh will organise a week long programme at Nongpoh and other parts of Ri Bhoi from June 5 to 9, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Ri Bhoi District since its inception on June 4, 1992. The celebration will commence with the rally in aid of World Environment Day on June 5 at 8:30 am from DTO to NSCA Stadium Pahamsyiem Nongpoh which will be participated by students and general public followed by the inaugural function at 10 am in which Dr. D. D. Lapang, Chief Adviser will grace the occasion as chief guest. To mark the celebration, Lapang will release the souvenir of the district. The 5-day programme will include events like traditional dances and songs, folk songs showcasing the indigenous culture of the district, the Ri Bhoi Talent Show, archery competition, quiz competition and traditional sports will be held followed by a debate competition and felicitation to the winners in the State Athletics Meet. Music beat contest, Mr & Miss Ri Bhoi Jubilee cum fashion show, DJ and kids’ show will be held. A Marathon final from Umdihar village to Indoor Stadium, Nongpoh followed by the award and prize distribution ceremony. The closing ceremony will be on June 9, wherein chief minister Mukul Sangma will grace the occasion as chief guest.
