Tribal body writes to Home Ministry

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Indigenous Tribal Constitutional Rights Movements (MITCRM),  which has been formed as umbrella body of village heads and traditional chiefs, several NGOs  has more or less finalised its memorandum which will be submitted to the Union Home Minister with regards to the amendment to the sixth schedule of the constitution.
North East Students’ Union (NESO) chairman, Samuel Jyrwa said that the drafting committee would finalise the memorandum by next Tuesday, which would be submitted to the Home Minister.
Stating that all the proposed amendments are not bad for Meghalaya, he said that there should be special proviso for the State since the Home Ministry has proposed that all District Councils should establish Village Councils and Municipal Council and the Village Council, which does not exist in Meghalaya.
“Municipal Councils should be termed as town Committees,” he said.
The Association in addition has also proposed many new amendments, that has not been proposed in the bill so far.
