TURA: South Tura MLA John Leslee K. Sangma has urged the West Garo Hills district administration to refine the process of applying for vacant posts under the District Selection Committee (DSC) in view of numerous problems being faced by candidates.
According to the MLA, the procedure laid down by the DSC to apply for vacant posts requires the candidate to deposit fees only at the SBI’s main branch in Tura.
“This process is totally disorganised. I personally visited the SBI’s main branch and was shocked to find hundreds of young people standing in a queue in a congested room and even on the stairs,” Sangma said and added that regular customers also faced inconvenience.
The chaos could have been avoided had the DSC allowed payment of fees at other SBI branches.
Stating that this was evident that there was lack of proper preparation on the part of the government, Sangma said he was shocked to see how a major town like Tura was still using the age-old process whereas in other parts of the State, applications are submitted online. “In other parts of Garo Hills students are allowed to use different branches which prevented congestion as well as inconvenience,” he said.
Sangma also said that students face further problems in finding their names which are pasted on the office notice board despite candidates submitting a self-addressed stamp envelope as required.
“I came to know that candidates have to flock to the office notice board to find their names even as they submit self-addressed envelopes. It is only after they get their serial numbers that they are able to meet the official in charge who would give them their call letters personally,” Sangma said.
