TURA: A group of suspected cattle smugglers attacked a Border Security Force jawan in Garo Hills when he tried to stop them on Friday morning.
Krishna Murthy, who is part of the patrol party belonging to the 26th battalion of the BSF, was on regular patrol of the border fencing at Hatimara-Mahendraganj sector of South West Garo Hills around 11 am when he spotted around six men attempting to smuggle out cattle across the fencing and into Bangladesh.
When he tried to stop them they attacked Murthy with daggers and wounded him grievously on the neck. However, they fled the site immediately fearing retaliation by other members of the patrol team.
Murthy was found by his colleagues who immediately rushed him to the Mahendraganj hospital. He is reportedly out of danger.
The border force has stepped up vigilance and made huge seizures in the recent weeks.
