Rapist forces victim to abort

SHILLONG: A 20-year-old woman in West Khasi Hills was allegedly raped several times last year.
In a complaint lodged on Saturday, it was alleged that Thiophilus Mawsor repeatedly raped the woman on October 25 and threatened her with consequences if she reported the incident to police. The woman got pregnant and Mawsor forced her to abort the baby, the complaint stated.

NRL employee flees with Rs 10 lakh
SHILLONG: An employee of NRL Emergency Station, Byndihati, has been accused of embezzlement.
In a complaint lodged on Saturday, Santamary Shylla said Vinod Kumar Sharma misappropriated Rs 10.67 lakh in the past five years and fled with the money.

No mention of cattle smuggling in BSF FIR
SHILLONG: The FIR lodged by the BSF jawan who was allegedly assaulted by a group of villagers does not mention about cattle smuggling.
A BSF statement had said the men who assaulted the Y. Krishnamurty were cattle smugglers.
But Krishnamurty of Rimtangpara BOP in South West Garo Hills in his complaint lodged on June 2, said Monsing Marak and four others came to the BOP point No. 4 at Rimtangpara when he was on duty and asked for water.
The accused persons then attacked the complainant with a dao and bamboo sticks causing injuries. The victim is admitted at CHC Mahendraganj.

Conrad reviews implementation of schemes in SGH
BAGHMARA: Tura MP, Conrad K Sangma held a meeting at Chokpot civil sub-division to review the implementation of centrally sponsored schemes under rural development and other ministries in South Garo Hills district on June 2.

The meeting was presided by Baghmara MDC,  Sengnal N Sangma and was also attended by South Garo Hills DC SN Marak, Project Director, DRDA, AM Sangma and other officials.

Cleaning drive in Mawlai
SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) Mawlai circle, will celebrate World Environment Day on June 5 by organising a cleaning drive along Bishop Beadon Falls, Mawlai Nongkwar from 9 am onwards.
Prizes will be awarded to the cleanest locality and most hygienic butcher’s shop in Mawlai. Environment secretary Donbok Khriam urge all the residents, especially the residents of Nongkwar to come together and take part in the cleaning drive.
