JOWAI/SHILLONG: Two goons who robbed a petrol pump in Jaintia Hills in February were arrested from Kochi in Kerala.
Three motorcycle-borne miscreants robbed those manning the petrol pump of Rs 2.5 lakh and three mobiles at gunpoint.
The accused have been identified as Bipul Daimary (23) and Roghu Ramchiary (24), both from Baksa district of Assam. Following the incident, West Jaintia Hills police formed a special team under DSP Ploster Syiem that has started the investigation. The investigations were extended to Assam and Kerala, and it was found that the two accused were hiding in Kochi and subsequently, a special team went there and arrested them. The duo was brought back to Shillong on Friday.
The accused revealed that Kochi has become a destination for criminals from the North East to escape from the hawk eyes of the police.
Earlier, several criminals, including militants, who were wanted in the North East were arrested from the southern states. The workforce from the North East employed in the southern states makes it easier for goons to mingle and evade the police.
