SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has termed the UDP-HSPDP handshake as a “backdoor alliance with BJP”.
Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, Sangma alleged that the alliance has taken place because both parties knew they could not have an alliance with BJP in the State and the question is whether this would pave way for backdoor alliance with BJP. He said that both UDP and ‘HSPDP’ are partners in the BJP-led North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), “which is a platform to be used by BJP to penetrate into states where they have been unsuccessful in penetrating so far by piggy riding on some political parties”.
“We will articulate this and tell our voters. The voters here are different from those in Assam and other states and we will be on the vigil against such back-door nexus,” Sangma added.
It may be mentioned that the NPP and UDP are the only two parties from the State that joined the NEDA.
