SHILLONG: The disciplinary committee of the MPCC chaired by prominent lawyer WHD Syngkon met on Tuesday to discuss the reply to the showcause issued to Cabinet Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar for his ‘anti-party activities’.
MPCC president D.D Lapang told reporters that the committee’s report will first come to MPCC and a copy will also be sent to AICC.
Lapang also made it clear that the issue of dropping the minister as demanded by certain quarters is not within the ambit of MPCC.
Earlier, the Jowai Block Congress Committee had sought action against Dhar and demanded that he be dropped from the Cabinet for trying to get party ticket for his brother-in-law from Jowai, which is currently represented by Deputy Chief Minister R.C Laloo. Following this, the party sought explanation from the minister who in his reply maintained that there was nothing wrong for anyone to apply for party ticket.
MPPC is unlikely to hurry in taking any decision against Dhar. “We will have to first examine the report before taking any action,” Lapang said.
The disciplinary committee is expected to submit the report within a day or two.
Lapang justifies Syiem’s suspension
Lapang also justified the suspension of KHADC chief executive member P.N Syiem saying that he carried out open revolt against the party.
While there was no showcause issued to Syiem, the party had sought reply from Dhar who is taking up the cause of his brother-in-law to contest on a Congress ticket from Jowai.
“The case of Syiem is different as he criticised the government and the party inside and outside the House, besides going to the press. Moreover, he also expressed his displeasure even before AICC,” Lapang said.
According to Lapang, the open expressions of Syiem were enough to take action against him and there was no need to issue showcause notice as his intentions were clear.
