BSF seizes sarees, betel nut

SHILLONG: BSF troops deployed at Umsiyam in East Khasi Hills District on Thursday detected suspected movement of smugglers along the international border and seized 1400 sarees worth around Rs 31 lakh which were being smuggled through the unfenced area in Umsyiam.
The smugglers, however, managed to escape.
In another incident, BSF troops deployed at Pyrdiwah in East Khasi Hills seized a huge consignment of betel nut. The total seizure weighs around 2340 kg and is said to be worth Rs 7 lakh. However, the smugglers managed to flee.
