SHILLONG/NONGPOH: An SUV was partially damaged in a petrol bomb attack at 4th Mile in the city on Saturday.
The vehicle, which had an Assam registration number, belongs to M/s Writer Safeguard Company. It was on ATM duty for State Bank of India.
Miscreants threw the bomb between 12.30am and 1.15am, sources said.
Petrol bomb attacks started following KSU’s violent protest at the railway project site in a Ri Bhoi village o May 27.
Three persons have been arrested so far in connection with the arson cases in the city. Two KSU leaders are already in jail in Ri Bhoi and their police custody was extended for two more days on Saturday.
KSU’s North Khasi Hills district unit president Ferdynald Kharkamni and assistant secretary of KSU central body Sonstar Nongkhlaw were produced in the court of the chief judicial magistrate for the fourth time on Saturday.
Kharkamni and Nongkhlaw were sent to 14-day judicial custody on June 4. They were again remanded in five-day police custody on June 6 for further questioning. This prompted the leaders’ families to allege human rights violation.
They said they were “shocked” at the police’s decision to interrogate the KSU leaders several times.
