SHILLONG: The Congress is in a dilemma to take action against Cabinet Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar for ‘anti-party activities’ after he wanted his brother-in-law to seek party ticket from Jowai represented by Deputy Chief Minister R.C Laloo.
While AICC wanted MPCC president DD Lapang to take a call on the matter, Lapang recently said the report of the disciplinary committee will be sent to AICC for a decision.
When contacted, AICC general secretary in-charge of Meghalaya CP Joshi said on Sunday, “Lapang is the competent person. You may talk to him.”
However, recently Lapang relied on AICC to finally decide on Dhar.
A section of the party members feels that at a time when the Congress is preparing for the Assembly polls, action against Dhar may affect the prospects of the party.
The minister is known to have his group of supporters, including MLAs, and any adverse action may affect the party, sources added.
However, the party will be under pressure from the Jowai Block Congress Committee and Laloo himself.
Earlier, a complaint was lodged by the Block Congress supported by Laloo for taking action against Dhar for trying to project his brother- in-law as the candidate of the party for Jowai following which a showcause notice was issued to Dhar on the matter.
However, Dhar in his reply to the disciplinary committee had maintained that there was no move to carry out anti-party activity as any one is free to seek ticket from Jowai, including his brother-in-law.
According to Dhar, if he goes against official party candidate after the allotment of ticket, then anyone is free to question his intentions.
The disciplinary committee headed by WHD Syngkon had last week submitted the report of the committee to Lapang.
