Police recover detonators, gelatin sticks, batteries in EJH

SHILLONG: East Jaintia Hills Police along with the Magistrate while conducting a surprised checking on illegal coal mining at Byndihati village, recovered detonators, gelatin sticks and batteries.
They detected a group of labourers engaged in mining activities at the village. However, the labourers fled on seeing the team and left behind seven detonators, seven gelatin sticks, four batteries and three mobile phones. The items have been seized by the police.
SP Spill Thamar said that labouers usually use gelatin sticks for blasting the coal mines, adding “Police is making all efforts to ensure that no illegal coal mining takes place in the District.”
According to Thamar, they are not conducting naka checkings as the people, who carry out illegal coal mining have spies, therefore, they conduct surprise checking.
In another incident, on June12 around 10.30 pm, Police detained one truck (ML-05L-1683) driven by Snam L. Marshillong at Kyrphei under Mawngap Police Station for transporting coal.
